The Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment and Social Welfare has paid a working visit to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to familiarise themselves with the operations at the port and also congratulate the Director General of the port authority, Paul Asare Ansah, on his appointment.
The committee members were received by the Director General and his management staff.
Briefing the members, Mr. Asare Ansah and the port authority is committed to providing quality and efficient services to its clients and players in the maritime industry.
He added that the port authority will continue to provide the needed platform for state agencies like the food and drugs authority, customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and other agencies to execute their mandate effectively.
Mr. Asare Ansah hinted that the port authority is considering establishing a one-stop-shop for the payment of duties and other charges in the port environment so as to reduce the possibility of payment of bribes.
The committee member hailed the one-stop-shop payment point and added that it will go a long way to reduce the human interface in the payment of duties.
