Apostle Jewel Joel Amenu, Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) of Mary Ekem Foundation, a Non-Governmental based in Tarkoradi in the Western region Organization is in Police custody over an alleged fraud case.
He is alleged to have defraud Asban Multi Media Ltd, a marketing and advertising outfit also based in Tema to tune of GH¢102,000.00.
An official memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Apostle Jewel Joel Amenu, which a copy has been intercepted by Business Journal has it that, Mary Ekem Foundation belonging to apostle Jewel Joel took delivery of 200 pieces laptops from Asban Multi Media on 8th January, 2018.
The official memo on the transaction indicated that a full payment of one hundred and two thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢102,000.00) for the total cost of transportation and the cost of the total number of the 200 laptops shall be made payment on Thursday 25th January, 2018.
Upon this agreement, Apostle Jewel signed a postdated cheques for GH¢102,000.00 to Asban Multi Media on 8th January, 2018, to be cashed on 25th January, 2018, at capital bank now GCB bank branch in Takoradi.
Management of Asban Multi Media waited patiently until the above mentioned date and presented the cheques at Guaranty Trust Bank branch in Lapas, Accra and the cheques was dishonored.
Management of Asban Multi Media informed Apostle Jewel about the dishonored cheques and he pleaded with them to present it again in three days’ time.
The second presentation was done in Tema Guaranty Trust Bank community 6, branch and it bounced again.
Suspicion then set in upon the Apostle’s refusal to answer numerous calls made by Management of Asban Multi Media Ltd.
A hunt for the Man of God was initiated when the case was reported at Tema Community 2 Police station.
He was finally arrested at Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra upon a tip off that the man of God had organized a funfair at the poolside of the hotel with friends and loved one’s to make merry with the booty.
A search conducted on him revealed that he has managed to sell almost all the laptops, leaving only 34 of them in his office at Takoradi.
Further checks on his conducts on facebook, Adom Fm online, Myjoyonline and other social media pages have these sad headlines on Apostle Jewel “Man Of God in Police grips for scamming 4,000 people. Man of God arrested for swindling victims, Wester region Pastor arrested for duping over 4,000 people, etc.”
When he appeared in Tema circuit court last week Wednesday on account of fraud, he pleaded not guilty and was remanded in Police Custody to re-appear in two weeks’ time.
