Sethi Brothers Ghana Limited, manufacturers and wholesalers of building materials, has introduced earthquake resistant iron rods to help project managers of large concrete works to access the commodity locally.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Charanjeet Sethi, Chairman of the Sethi group of companies said the rods are specially made to withstand earthquake and other seismic activities.

According to him, the rods, which were first brought to Ghana in January, was part of an order placed by a foreign contractor.

“It is not an everyday thing. This is used in large projects like Flyovers, Airports and Harbours.  They are a bit expensive but if you use it, it will save you a lot of trouble.”

Mr Sethi said the rods can be used in private buildings if only the owner wants to keep it for generations.

According to him, “Iron rods are like bones of a building; the stronger your bone, the stronger your body”

He called on consumers not to compromise on quality of building materials since a weak building structure is not only a financial drain but a death trap.
